We are pleased to announce that the wheelchair tennis player Ruben Spaargaren has come under the wing of Wolturnus. Ruben has always been actively involved in sports from an early age. That he became disabled in 2010 has not stopped him from doing what he loves, which is to be able to practice sports. More precisely, Ruben cultivates the sport known as wheelchair tennis. The only difference from regular tennis is that the ball may bounce a second time before hitting it back.

In 2014 Ruben was given the opportunity to become a part of the Dutch junior selection team, and has since been busy achieving many good results in 2015, 2016 and 2017, both internationally and nationally. Ruben strives to get even higher up on the rankings, and hopes that one day he can call himself one of the best in the world.

  • 2015 – Silver medal with the junior team at the World Team Cup in Turkey
  • 2015 – Winner of the Dutch Junior National Tournament
  • 2016 – Bronze medalist for the juniors during the World Team Cup in Tokyo, Japan
  • 2016 – Finalist of the Dutch Senior National Tournament
  • 2017 – Winner in both double and single at ITF Future Tournament BNP Paribas Handisport de Cagnes Sur Mer

Ruben dreams of being able to participate in the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic, and of course we would like to help him along the way. That is why we are in the process of manufacturing a new tennis wheelchair for Ruben, which will help give him the added comfort and stability when the tennis matches intensify.
